Position Responsibilities:

We’re seeking an exceptional individual to lead our River and Water-Based Travel Programs in Alaska as well as our River Program across the Americas. Experience in the adventure travel industry and substantial traveling is essential, and even more important is enthusiasm and commitment to the highest standards in the industry in sales, trip creation/management, team management and client service.

Key Competencies & Experience:

  • Develop and manage water adventure trips including responsibility for itineraries, budgets, guides, vendors, quality assurance
  • Oversee regional team, including Sales and Client Services
  • Strong adventure travel experience including guiding and managing a vertical operation, with responsibility for fine-tuning existing trips and developing new trips from scratch
  • Update and oversee accuracy and currency of sales tools (itineraries, FAQs, pre-departure and final bulletins, training materials, etc.)
  • Build and maintain trip budgets and operate trips to the profit levels established in the budgets, including understanding of trip economics: yield, profits, volume, cost, set prices
  • Ability to work with dozens of vendors remotely, ensuring the highest standards in trip quality
  • Excellent people skills as liaison between office and guides/vendors including reviews & communications, negotiation of terms and conditions of services, and training of field staff
  • Good negotiator and strong relationship builder
  • Ability to manage multiple critical deadlines for various departments
  • Experience conducting competitive and regional trend analysis
  • Desire to design creative solutions for changing markets
  • Experience managing vertical operations especially oversight of ground staff and gear, field protocol and management of entire budget
  • Adept ability to build high level, custom itineraries utilizing existing ground operators as well as sourcing all aspects of itinerary from ground up

Experience Required:
  • Enthusiasm for travel, especially small-group adventure travel
  • Experience guiding in the field, most notably in river and water adventures, as well as experience managing field staff and product
  • Excellent work ethic and commitment to the business
  • Ability to see the big picture and execute on it with team
  • Teamwork approach – strong initiative to develop vertical regional team as well as coordinate with sales and marketing teams to drive sales growth
  • Able to give and receive constructive feedback
  • Excellent multi-tasking and prioritization skills
  • Strong budgeting experience; managing vertical operations and ensuring profitability of individual trips and overall region
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with clients and colleagues
  • Solid computer and Internet skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet, CMS, etc.)
  • An enthusiastic, positive attitude and can-do spirit
