Position Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Plant Quality Manager, this position provides leadership and support to processes and projects related to food safety, regulatory, SQF, new product development, and raw material trials for the business. This position provides direct support for the Operations Area Manager group as well as the Quality Lab Technicians. Results are achieved through analysis of quality data, validation/verification, internal quality process auditing, and physical presence during quality projects. This person is responsible for providing daily information, assistance, direction, guidance, and education related to the technical food science/quality related issues. Active participation in the Area Manager business group and input to other business functions is expected. The ability to perform all tasks in a highly collaborative, team environment is essential. Continued success is achieved, in part, through the development of positive personal relationships within all employee groups. Willingness and flexibilty to work on various shifts is required. Promotable behaviors are a must for success in the Quality Area Manager position.

ESSENTIAL

 

TECHNICAL SUPPORT AND INVOLVEMENT

Teaches, plans, organizes, and implements learning methods/tools for teams and individuals to increase their knowledge and abilities of process related to technical expertise in food safety and quality systems.

Encourages creative ideas from employees and formulates those ideas into realistic projects and process that will improve quality, morale, and/or reduce operating costs.

Provides a working knowledge of the production equipment while also seeking to provide appropriate resources (internal and external) to ensure the team’s success in quality processes.

Is a technical quality resource to aid in daily practical and analytical problem solving, as well as identifies and corrects food safety issues for the plant operations.

Participates on teams to provide quality expertise. i.e. sensory, HOLD, Food Safety, Food Quality, and Traceability

Leads/Coordinates efforts to investigate and respond to consumer complaints

 

PROJECT AND PROCESS MANAGEMENT

 

Effectively manages assigned projects for:

  • SQF
  • New product trial
  • PD trials
  • Heat penetration
  • Raw material trials
  • Regulatory changes
  • Validation/verification of equipment and systems
  • Audit and prerequisite programs
  • Organic program


Ensures completion of post audit corrective actions

Ensures daily process data is analyzed and utilized for process improvement opportunity

Supports plant Bush Quality Management Systems (BQMS) initiatives as needs are identified by Quality Manager

 

LEADERSHIP

Provides leadership to Operations & Material Handler Teams in support of Area Manager peer group

With the support of Quality Manager, leads proactive improvement initiatives in all quality / regulatory processes

SUPPLEMENTAL

Fiscal Responsibility:

Internal Customers: All hourly manufacturing personnel, Area Manager group, Department Managers, HR, Purchasing, Administration

External Customers: Corporate, consumers, equipment and material vendors, Temp services, FDA, and other regulatory

Degrees

Bachelor’s Degree of Arts or Science or equivalent experience

 Years of Experience

3-5 years' related experience

 Certifications/Licenses

Better Process Control School

SQF practitioner, HACCP certification, FSMA PCQI

 Specialized Skills

Preferred: Computer skills including use of Microsoft Dynamics AX, Microsoft Office, and web-based programs. Facilitation, Coaching, team building skills, communication, and organization. SPC for PI initiatives, Food safety and science knowledge, thermal processing, and microbiology.

 

Education Required:
MBA pref.
Other Remarks:
Shifts are primarily days but needs to be flexible to attend all shifts as needed for Q related topics.
