Position Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Department Manager, this position provides leadership to the hourly manufacturing process teams in the plant. This position is responsible for delivering results that align with business goals while making continuous improvements in areas of Safety, Quality, Cost, Organizational Development, and Reliable Maintenance. Results are achieved through providing growth, development, feedback, and coaching, both positive and disciplinary to hourly team members; engaging PI teams, incorporating tools used in Lean Manufacturing. This person is responsible for the daily results, as well as long term effectiveness of the operation team. The ability to perform all tasks in a highly collaborative team environment is essential. Continued success is achieved, in part, through the development of positive personal relationships within all employee groups. Willingness and flexibility to work on any shifts, support peers, take on special projects, and rotate into different departments is a mandatory component of the Shift Supervisor role. All work is completed in alignment with BQMS.

ESSENTIAL 

Includes teaching, planning, organizing, and implementing learning methods / tools for teams and individuals to increase their knowledge and abilities. This requires excellent oral communication skills.

Utilize accountability systems to ensure knowledge and skills meet expectations creating innovative solutions and improvements, which contribute to the success of the company. Provide leadership to the team in expanding their areas of influence and performance, taking ownership of their operation and key measurements.

Continue the journey of High Performing Work Teams. Encourage creative ideas from employees and formulates those ideas into realistic projects and processes that will improve quality, safety, morale, equipment reliability and/or reduce operating costs.

Deals effectively with behavioral issues, performance issues, and staffing needs. Utilization of collaboration, feedback and performance reviews to obtain objective performance data is required.

Must use documentation and tracking processes for maintaining employee records. Works closely with HR for these processes. This requires excellent written communication skills.

Works closely with hourly Team Coordinators to assess team needs enabling optimization of talent and staffing within their employee base.

Keeps plant Leadership Team apprised of situations that escalate or have the potential to disrupt business strategies.

Facilitates meetings with team members to align on business strategies and goals, both short and long term. 

PROJECT AND PROCESS MANAGEMENT

Effectively manages assigned projects that improve the production area including, but not limited to building processes to manage costs, quality, and timeliness of projects and improve safety.

Recognizes when the use of a Kaizen events would be useful for process improvement and can facilitate this CI events

Ensures daily process data is analyzed and utilized for process improvement opportunity

Supports plant Bush Quality Management Systems (BQMS) initiative as needs are identified by Quality Manager.

Must participate directly in plant safety strategy by sponsoring a safety team. The manager provides a working knowledge of the production equipment while also seeking and providing appropriate resources (internal and external) to ensure the team’s success.

The manager also provides integration of the maintenance personnel into the team and the team processes.  They also provide personal resources to aid in daily practical and analytical problem solving, as well as identifying and correcting safety issues for the production area.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Participates in the production area budgeting processes and operates within the established budget while providing timely notification of expenses exceeding budget amounts. The manager is responsible for the integrity of all information and data generated by the production area and teams.

Responsible for the knowledge and reporting or production data feeding the accounting processes. i.e. MUV’s and labor SUPPLEMENTAL Fiscal Responsibility: Operations labor budget ~$5.5M Internal alytical problem solving, as well as identifying and correcting safety issues for the production area.

Customers: All hourly manufacturing personnel/QA/HR/Purchasing/Administration External Customers: Corporate, consumers, equipment and material vendors, Temp services

Experience Required:

Degrees Bachelor’s Degree of Arts or Science or equivalent experience

Certifications/Licenses Better Process Control School Specialized Skills Computer skills including use of Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and other web-based programs

Facilitation, coaching, and team building skills

Lean Manufacturing tools; 6S, SMED and Kaizen, General mechanical/manufacturing knowledge

Understanding of OSHA regulation
